Energy Tax Credit
There is no better time to replace your entry and/or patio doors with energy efficient ones. The federal government developed a tax credit for homeowners that install new, energy efficient windows and/or doors in 2009-2010 as a part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. To qualify for the tax credit the windows and/or doors must meet a certain criteria. The two qualifiers for the windows are the U-Factor and the Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC). Both the U-Factor and the SHGC must be less than or equal to 0.30.
By installing patio or entry doors through Weather Tight, you will earn a tax credit of 30% of the cost of your door(s), up to $1500!*
How do I qualify for the tax credit?
- Purchase and install a qualified entry or patio door from 01/01/09 through 12/31/10 (installation costs not eligible). Speak with your Weather Tight Sales Representitive to see if your door qualifies
- The product must be installed in taxpayer’s principal residence
- Products must have both a U-Factor and Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) of 0.30 or lower
- For your own record keeping, save your sales receipt (showing the individual price of each qualifying product) and the manufacturer certification statement
- Claim your tax credit for the year the home improvement was made
*Tax credit is valid for the cost of the product only. Installation does not qualify for the tax credit. Windows and/or doors must be installed by December 31, 2010 to qualify.
